Betsy Payne Cook paints exclusively with pastels, and is honored to be a juried associate artist member of the Pastel Society of American and to have achieved signature membership status of the Pastel Painters Society of Cape Cod. Betsy is acknowledged as a juried Master Artist at the Cape Cod Art Association, an achievement that recognizes her many accomplishments. Betsy is the newest member of the South Cape Artists, an award winning group of professional artists whose individual works are found in collections throughout the United States and Europe. Betsy’s pastel paintings have been juried into many local and national art exhibitions. She is honored to have “Early Morning Dune” accepted into the 24th International Association of Pastel Societies Exhibition at the Vose Galleries in Boston. Her painting “Cold Night Out” was awarded Best of Show in the Pastel Painters Society of Cape Cod’s 2013 National Exhibition.   She is represented by Gallery Artrio in Hyannis; and for the 2014 summer season her paintings will be on display the O’Donnell Art Gallery in Mashpee.

Betsy’s pastel paintings depict her impressions of the landscape and its abundance of colors; and offer her personal interpretation of local scenes and her travels.   Betsy has a love of painting en plein air and heads outdoors with her easel & pastels during all seasons of the year. With limited time to paint before the conditions change, she keeps her paintings fresh and has learned to respond spontaneously to the scene in front of her. The time she spends outdoors follows her back to the studio, allowing her to create more than a copy of her photograph source. Betsy has begun to record her thoughts and experiences as an artist in her blog “Painting In and Out”. She also publishes a newsletter of the same title, sharing insights into her life as an artist working both in the studio and en plein air.
