Still Life and Portrait Photography: Shooting indoors in winter
Jan. 13- Feb. 17, 2024 Six Saturdays, 10am-Noon
Price: Non-Member $205 / Member $185
Winter on Cape Cod makes photographing landscapes a bit more challenging, but it’s a perfect time for creating indoor still lifes and portraits. Over six hands-on sessions we’ll explore setting up still lifes and portraits using inexpensive everyday lights, as well as using small inexpensive strobes. Food, flowers, antiques, and other everyday objects can make for interesting still lifes, and willing family and friends can be perfect portrait subjects. We’ll look at the use of hard and soft light, natural light, and ways to modify light depending on the mood we wish to create. Posing and basic post-processing will be discussed, as well as different inexpensive (and expensive) lighting solutions. A culminating project will be the production of a magazine and/or website to show off students’ work. Those wishing to learn the basics of Photoshop can take the afternoon Photoshop 101 class at a slight discount.
Requirements: DSLR or Mirrorless camera. Phone cameras can be used but will be limited in ability to control lighting. Hot-shoe flashes are optional.
