Where: Sandy Neck Beach, West Barnstable
When: Saturday, June 10th,
Time: 9:00 am – 3:00 pm, (6-hour outdoor workshop over the dunes)
Join me as we travel off road on Sandy Neck to the Cottage at Halfway Point, a place not known to many. We will leave the parking area near the gate in a Ranger vehicle & they will be driving us there. (Not near the Lighthouse). Once we arrive, about a 30 minute drive, they will open the house for us & we will store our snacks & lunch along with any extra equipment in the house where it will be safe. Bring PLENTY of water & always carry a bottle with you!!!
Once everyone is settled you will begin to notice the migratory birds, Warblers & Song Birds along with Woodpeckers. The Swallows will be using the nesting boxes on the marsh and the Osprey will be on their nesting platform right in front of the house about 25 feet away!!! Talk about closeups!!!
From the road, the marsh is on one side while Cape Cod Bay is just a walk over the dunes away! We will be able to hike down the road a bit, through the woods, and up over the dunes giving us breathtaking views of the Bay! We will walk the beach in search of shore birds and anything else that may interest people.
On the marsh side photographing the Swallows & Osprey will be on the agenda. We can practice birds in flight, getting those shutter speeds up! If you have a Neutral Density filter bring it! With it attached to your lens we can get creative with long exposures, panning, and zooms!
The landscape is other worldly… scrub pines, dead trees & stumps will render well to B&W post processing. The dunes, marsh grasses, & beach all can be used to create textures & patterns. The possibilities are endless!!!
I encourage you to walk around to see & find what YOU like knowing. I am nearby for any questions or help!!! We will work on techniques together & individually.
Taking Sandy Neck Road we will meet down at the Gate House, plenty of parking!
Please bring a lunch, snacks, and WATER!
We will be out there for about 4 1/2 hours so plan accordingly.
Cameras should have a long lens for bird photography as well as a landscape lens.
A tripod for landscapes & long exposures!
Learn how to isolate your subject while creating a beautiful blurred background known as bokeh.
This outing will be taking place on Saturday June 10th, from 9AM – 3PM
Included in the cost is your ride down to the Halfway Point House.
BIO: I am a nature photographer residing in the small town of Brewster, MA on Cape Cod. Originally from Westport, MA I fell in love with photography at an early age.
Primarily a wildlife, nature, and land/seascape artist my camera is always with me! I truly believe an image should tell a story and invoke emotion. To capture a moment that delivers such feeling is hard to come by and the greatness of “being at the right place at the right time” really takes hold.
The Cape offers up an abundance of wildlife and one must be ready when the opportunity presents itself. Just like the beautiful light that surrounds Cape Cod, sunrises, sunsets, ever changing, storms passing through give way to dramatic skies, the night sky & Milky Way, my camera is always ready.
An avid traveler I have explored many places in pursuit of my passion however Brewster and beautiful Cape Cod are home and that’s more than likely where you will find me and my camera!
There is only you and your camera. The limitations in your photography are in yourself, for what we see is what we are.
