Join artist Anne Tochka for a one-day workshop to paint the dunes and marshes in the stunning Sandy Neck Preserve. In this workshop, you’ll learn the fundamentals of plein air painting and how to develop your own style in your work. The day will begin with a painting demonstration before the group breaks up to work on their own pieces, with Anne giving individual advice and instruction to each student. This workshop is open to all levels and all mediums. Students may choose to work on one painting or a series of smaller works to inspire future paintings.
Anne has completed painting residencies in Romania, Mexico, and Peru, and is making the most of living on Cape Cod by frequently painting en plein air in our gorgeous surroundings. From her travels, Anne has endless advice on supplies, what to pack, and how to set up outdoors. The demonstration and instruction will cover all the practical aspects of plein air painting, as well as dive into expressing the unique light and colors of the Cape in your work.
A quiet time to create . . . In the quiet of Sandy Neck Beach Park, the rustic cottage at the halfway point stands in the middle of the dunes, marsh and water. (Not the Lighthouse). It provides solitude, scenic landscapes and an endless source of beauty and inspiration. The Town of Barnstable, in partnership with the Cape Cod Art Center, offers day excursions to this unspoiled landscape. It is a special place to create and immerse yourself in the great outdoors. From time to time a Sandy Neck Beach Park naturalist will travel out with the group and share their first-hand knowledge and expertise of this “living museum”.
The Cottage at the Halfway Point is very rustic. While out you will be exposed to the elements, and need to dress appropriately. Bring snacks and lunch, water and hat, sunglasses, sunscreen and other personal items you may need to be comfortable outdoors for hours. An Out-House is available at the location.
