There’s nothing more exciting than capturing a great photograph of a wild animal be it a mountain lion, a fox or a hawk. However, animal photography which is often referred to as nature photography is very challenging. Which camera settings do you use? How fast a shutter speed do you need? What lens do you need? How high should the ISO be? What makes a good composition? How do you deal with bad light? And there’s a lot more involved in taking photos of wild animals. This workshop will provide an overview of what’s involved in the various camera settings, composition, equipment, choosing the right locations and right light, post processing and lots of tips. In addition, John will show a lot of nature photos as examples of how to deal with various situations. Much of the instruction in this session will also apply to action photography such as sports, pet photography, and street photography. After the workshop presentation, participants are invited to practice what they’ve learned by joining John at a photo shoot at Herring Run.
John lives in California during the winter and is a member and past Vice-President of the Marin Photo Club. During about five months of the year, he lives in Eastham in an 1860’s farm house on Town Cove. In past years, he has taught HDR and Focus Stacking for Cape Cod Art Center. John is an avid nature photographer and has traveled to many locations including Botswana and Borneo and to many locations in the US and Canada including Yellowstone, Basque del Apache, Machias Island, Monterey and the Triple D Ranch in Montana. You don’t have to travel to get great nature photos and one of John’s favorite shots is the “Herring Gull Eating a Herring” that was taken in Brewster. All of the Klingel workshops include handouts of all the presentation information and other reference material.
