Description:
Join photographer John Tunney for a special 5-day/4-night workshop on the beautiful coast of Maine as we photograph Acadia National Park, the Schoodic Peninsula, Mount Desert Island and DownEast Maine. The workshop includes lodging for four nights and all meals (except one lunch and dinner in Bar Harbor).

We’ll be based at the Schoodic Institute near Schoodic Point. Known as the quiet side of Acadia, the Schoodic Peninsula offers a variety of opportunities to experience Maine’s rugged coast, including dramatic cliffs and rocky shorelines, woodland trails that lead to the famous Schoodic Point and its giant slabs of pink granite that extend into the open Atlantic. It’s a great spot for sunrise, sunset and stars. We’ll also visit coastal villages such as Birch Harbor, Prospect Harbor and the quaint Corea for scenes of classic DownEast Maine – fishing boats, lobster traps, working docks and more. On Mount Desert Island, we’ll explore picturesque locales such as Bar Harbor, the Acadia coast, Jordan Pond, Eagle Lake, as well as places off the beaten track.

Most days will begin with a sunrise and morning shoot, then a break and free time around lunch. We’ll reconvene after lunch for editing, classroom lessons, discussion and reviews, and then head out for field sessions in the late afternoon/early evening. We’ll also have an optional night shoot. The weather, sun, moon and tides will guide our schedule and itinerary.

The workshop is limited to a maximum 8 students, so you’ll have plenty of time for personalized instruction. John will offer tips and techniques in the field and classroom to help you get the most out of your workshop and develop your skills. Instruction includes:
– Classic and creative landscape photography
– Long exposure and camera movement
– Depth of field
– How to photograph the Milky Way
– Use of filters
– Editing landscapes and coastal scenes

What’s Included:
– Four nights lodging at the Schoodic Institute. All participants will have their own private bedroom in a shared apartment. Bedrooms will have either a double bed or a twin (we can’t guarantee bed type). Accommodations include WiFi, DirectTV, hard line telephones, fully equipped kitchens, as well as dining and living rooms.
– All meals except one lunch and one dinner in Bar Harbor.
– We’ll carpool to our various destinations
– You’ll receive a detailed list of recommended camera equipment after registration.
