“Memoir of the Landscape” with Victoria Templeton
Friday, September 30 & Saturday, October 1,2021
9am-3pm
$300 members / $325 non members
OPEN TO ALL MEDIA
Create and express authentic visual dialogue from your observation and  outdoor experience. Use techniques that emphasize individualism, the artist’s voice, and avoid rendering or copying the view.
You will utilize tools such as fast sketching, strong color choice, and simple values as well linear  and emotional design. Often there is a constant chatter in painting that nags at the painter. We will learn to quiet and put aside the “editor.”  The entire workshop is about process and not necessarily a finished result, but an interesting place to stop. In fact you are encouraged not to finish a painting on the spot and make mistakes!
9:00-3:00 with a  30 minute lunch break at noon (they are to bring their own.)
30 minute  lessons in each morning and afternoon lessons to apply.
Individual assistance through out.
Discussion and recap of work from 2:30-3:00.
Mid Cape locations to be announced.
Artist Bio:
A native San Franciscan and long time California resident, Victoria was exposed to many forms of
creative art, always drawing and painting in some form. She majored in acting at Loyola Marymount
University and she also loved costume design. For over twenty years she worked in the fashion industry.
In the 1990’s, she reconnected with studio painting and evolved into her life passion. In 2000, she
studied with Roger Armstrong, a master painter and school founder at the Laguna College of Art and
Design. With Roger as her mentor, Victoria learned boldness and risk. “Its only paint and paper” he told
her. Roger exposed her to plein air and shared many approaches to outdoor painting. He was one of the
first participants in the famous Laguna Beach Invitational for Plein Air. When he died in 2007, the Irvine
Fine Art Center asked Victoria to continue his class. She discovered another ardor, teaching. Her
approach, like her mentor, encouraged students to lose fear, take risks and view painting as a process.
Later in 2015, Victoria and her husband, Bob, retired to Barnstable in Cape Cod. She put teaching aside
and focused on building a body of new artwork. She has studio space at The Old Schoolhouse in
Barnstable Village. She is a continuous participant CCAC plein air group and contributed to their second
2019 edition of Plein Air Painting on Cape Cod. She has been in several Cape Cod shows and received
recognition. “Child-like curiosity and play remains the most important part of my work. When I trust
creative energy and stop critic chatter, my paintings reflect the authentic relationship I forged with the
subject or landscape. I paint in all mediums, using what feels best for me that day. It’s only paint and
paper!”
