Painting Techniques
Date: Friday, June 5
Time: 9:30am – 12:30pm
This 3-hour workshop introduces students to a range of essential painting techniques. Through instructor demonstrations followed by guided, hands-on practice, participants will apply each method directly to their own painting, building both skill and confidence. The class is geared towards oil paints, however most also apply to acrylics.
Topics covered in this class include:
- Understanding brushes and developing effective brushwork
- Using the wipeout technique for drawing and correction
- Creating surface texture
- Glazing for depth and luminosity
- Scumbling for soft, atmospheric effects
- Oiling out to unify and revive color
- The importance of edges in shaping form and focus
Materials for this class:
- Two 11×14 canvas panels
- 2” Triangle Palette Knife
- #2, 4 or 6 Hog Bristle Brushes
- #2, 4 or 6 Synthetic Brights
- Gamsol or odorless mineral spirits
- Paper towels or cloth
- Palette
