Secrets of Success in Watercolor

Becky will share her 38 years of watercolor painting experience. The class will
learn how to create impactful watercolors, using her unique methods.
Instruction will include drawing techniques, composition and perspective.
Developing your own personal style and originality will be emphasized.
Becky will demonstrate painting techniques: capturing light, color mixing, wet into
wet skies, textures, hard edged realism and how to fix mistakes.
All levels welcome


Materials List

student supply list:
scrap paper for drawing practice
tracing paper
ruler, pencils, good eraser
masking tape
watercolor paper (block or pad is fine, a full sheet can be cut into 4)
your own photos to paint from (no calendars, greeting cards or published photos.
I will have some photos to share for anyone who really doesn’t have any)
watercolor paint and mixing tray – colors: ultramarine blue, pthalo blue, yellow
ochre, burnt sienna, cadmiums red and yellow, pthalo green (similar palette okay)
brushes: 1″ flat, rounds #12,8,4,and 2
water containers, paper towels and toilet paper


Becky Haletky

Becky Haletky has been painting in watercolor for 38 years. She holds a Bachelor
of Fine Arts from Mass College of Art. She is a signature member of the
prestigious New England Watercolor Society, where she served on the board of
directors for 20 years and is a past president. She is also a signature member of
Rhode Island Watercolor Society, a gallery artist at South Shore Art Center and
Plymouth Center for the Arts, as well as an artist member of CCAA. A recipient of
multiple cultural council grants, her work hangs in municipal, corporate and
private collections here and abroad. She has won over 400 awards regionally and
nationally, including many Best in Shows. Becky’s work is featured in several
books, most recently “Creative Freedom” by Maggie Price.
