Description:

This is a 6-week introductory course on using Lightroom Classic CC. Over the 6-week period, students will learn how to import and organize images in Lightroom Classic CC as well as how to develop images and use the other features in this popular editing program.  This course is ideal for beginners through intermediate users or those who want a refresher on how to use the software.

Because we all learn by doing, students are encouraged to bring laptops to class (note that students will need to be familiar with how to use a computer and be able to navigate to folders on their hard drive).

IMPORTANT:  BEFORE COMING TO THE FIRST CLASS EACH STUDENT MUST ESTABLISH ON THEIR COMPUTER A FOLDER CALLED “PHOTOS MASTER” (or something similar) AND INSTALL A PHOTOGRAPH INTO THIS FOLDER. ALL OF THIS IS TO BE PERFORMED USING THE COMPUTER’S OPERATING SYSTEM AND IS NOT TO BE DONE USING LIGHTROOM.  STUDENTS MUST BE ABLE TO ACCESS THIS FOLDER IN THE CLASSROOM.  STUDENTS WHO HAVE NOT ACCOMPLISHED THIS BEFORE THE FIRST CLASS WILL NOT BE PERMITTED TO CONTINUE WITH THE COURSE AND WILL RECEIVE A REFUND FROM CCAC. The picture inserted into the Photos Master folder can be a “junk” image; it serves only as an anchor and we will not be editing this image at any time.

Students will need to have a fairly recent version of Lightroom (preferably Lightroom Classic CC, although any version after 5.0 is ok) installed and running on their computers. This class will be hands-on and will be focused on the features in Lightroom Classic CC; however most of the course material will also be applicable to Lightroom Version 5 and 6. During this course, the student will also learn tips and tricks for keeping their Lightroom catalogs organized so images can be found quickly and easily as well as how to optimize images to their fullest potential.

Bio:

Betty Wiley is a freelance photographer who resides in Massachusetts on Cape Cod in the beautiful, little town of Yarmouth Port. Originally from Las Vegas, Nevada, she moved to Massachusetts over 30 years ago and bought a home on the Cape with her husband in 2006. She quickly fell in love with the natural beauty of the area and since then, she has spent countless hours exploring the Cape with her camera. She believes that good light is often key to a successful photograph. Often, the storms that move through the area create dramatic light and beautiful clouds and when that happens, she usually grabs her camera and hops in her car as the skies begin to clear. Betty is a frequent contributor to a number of magazines on Cape Cod and the South Shore. She was featured in a photo essay which appeared in the July (2011) issue of Cape Cod magazine which showcased her images taken on Cape Cod and the islands. She has numerous magazine assignments and covers to her credit and is an experienced speaker, instructor and workshop leader and has received numerous accolades for her teaching and on-location workshops.
