Seeing in a New Light: An Introduction to Infrared Photography
Infrared (IR) photography offers a unique artistic approach to exploring the world of “invisible” light. Why “invisible”? Because our eyes cannot see infrared light, but our cameras can! IR allows us to capture surreal, glowing foliage and create dramatic contrasts in skies and water, transforming everyday scenes into otherworldly, dream-like images.
In this talk, you’ll be introduced to the basics of this unique photographic technique. We’ll start with an overview of the science behind infrared light, explaining how it differs from visible light. You’ll learn about the special equipment needed, including infrared filters and converted cameras, and gain practical insights into selecting the right gear for capturing infrared images.
Finally, we’ll explore post-processing techniques and examine inspiring images that showcase the potential of infrared photography. If you’ve ever considered trying this photographic technique yourself, this talk is perfect for you.
