Photography II: The Art & Craft of Better Seeing with John Tunney
Mondays and Tuesdays
Date: July 1 – August 4
Time: 6:00pm
Cost: $295/$325
A famous photographer once said , “If you want to take more interesting pictures, stand in front of more interesting stuff”. The art of photography is learning to see interesting stuff wherever you go and then using it to make an expressive image. That’s what this class is about.
In this intensive, hands-on class, we’ll combine field shoots with classroom sessions as we explore composition and design, light, “creative” photography methods, editing techniques to optimize your images, and the art of “seeing” and making photographs. The goal is to help you take your photography to the next level so you can consistently create expressive images.
The first class starts with a classroom session and then an evening field shoot. From then on we’ll meet twice a week – once via Zoom for about an hour to review images and for discussion, then the next day for an evening field shoot. Field shoots will include instruction for specific tasks on site and time to explore and follow your muse. You’ll also have weekly homework assignments.
Who should take this class
Anyone who wants to take their photography to the next level. It is open to anyone who has taken Intro to Photography or has similar experience. You should have a basic understanding of camera controls and how to adjust f-stops, shutter speed and ISO, plus some experience with Lightroom or an equivalent software.
What you’ll need
- Any camera is fine for this class, but you’ll get the most out of it with a DSLR or mirrorless camera with manual controls.
- Any lens or combination of lenses is fine.
- A sturdy tripod.
- A car for transportation to the field shoots.
- Computer and editing software.
Weather
In the event of inclement weather, we’ll either re-schedule field shoots or have an indoor shoot.
