Hydrangea Gardens Workshop and Demo with Wendi Smith

Let’s celebrate Cape Cod’s signature flowers in pastel! Hydrangeas come in many different colors and varieties. We’ll learn to see and paint the many colors and values in a single hydrangea blossom. If you are a beginner or experienced pastel artist this class is for you. We’ll have fun!
We’ll create a Cape Cod summer garden painting with hydrangeas and other flowers. Good practice just in time to plein air paint in the 2025 Cape Cod Hydrangea Festival gardens. Wendi will supply reference images of summer gardens or feel free to bring your own reference photos.
Supply List:
-Soft and hard pastels
Note: CCAC has soft and hard pastels available to use if you don’t have your own. If you have your own, please bring some.
-Backing board to mount painting surface, Foamcore or drawing board to hold 9×12 paper Wendi will have extra if needed.
-Two 9×12 Uart 400 sand or natural or 9×12 Pastelmat paper
Note: Wendi will have paper available at class for $5.00 per sheet. Cash or Check please.
-Sketch book and pencil for thumbnails
-Ruler
-Old light color dish or hand towel
-Wet naps
-Papertowels
-Masking or Artist tape (don’t get artist tape at Michaels or Hobby Lobby)
-Oil or acrylic brush for alcohol was underpainting.
