Watercolor
Day: Mondays, 3 classes, January 6, January 20 and February 3, 2025
Intermediate to advanced students.
Time: 9:30am-12:00 Noon

Location: Cape Cod Art Center studio A
This class will explore the coordination of the mental with the physical processes in developing a painting, and how this helps to create a freer, more spontaneous approach to your watercolor. Intermediate to advanced students.
Materials List:
Paper: Arches 140lb. cold press 22×30 (Will be cut in half or quarters.)
Brushes: A good quality round no. 12 sable or synthetic (not squirrel hair.) Same quality no. 5 or 6 round plus a no. 1 rigger brush. Also a 1 inch flat Aquarelle or equivalent. Plus any other watercolor brushes you may have.
Paints: Artist quality tube watercolors. Winsor Newtown, Holbien, DaVinci, Grumbacher, or equivalent;
Colors:
Lemon Yellow
Cad. Yellow
Cad. Orange
Burnt Sienna
Alizarin crimson
Ultra marine blue
Cerulean or Manganese blue
Cad. red
Paynes gray or Indigo Blue
Indian red or Light red
Phalo blue, green shade
Good to have:
Quandicrone GoldYellow Gold
Palette: John Pike type palette or porcelain “butchers tray”
Painting Board: 18×24 in. Homesote (will talk about this in class)
Miscellaneous: HB pencil, kneaded eraser, facial tissues, masking tape, sponge and that credit card you should have gotten rid of long a go.
Also, if you use the homsote board, you will need a staple gun.
Instructor Bio:
Robert Mesrop has been an artist and painter for over 45 years. He is a Signature Member of the New England Watercolor Society and the Pennsylvania Watercolor Society and is currently a painting and drawing instructor at the Cape Cod Art Association and the Creative Art Center in Chatham Mass, He has also conducted painting workshops in Main and Massachusetts.
Robert’s Primary medium is watercolor although he also works in oil and drawing media. Robert is fascinated by changing lights and shadows. He paints to capture these moments in time. The freshness and luminosity of watercolor make it the perfect medium.
He says “it requires discipline, planning and forethought. I try to work through the painting mentally so that I can approach the paper with the spontaneity that is the hallmark of the medium”.
Robert received his Bachelor of Professional Arts degree, form the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles. For 22 years he was an Art Director at J Walter Thompson and at Kenyon and Eckhardt Ad agencies in New York. He is a Master Artist member of the Cape Cod Art Association, and a member of the Creative Art Center, Chatham, the Transparent Watercolor Society and the Salmagundi Club. He exhibits his work at the Fresh Paint Gallery in Yarmouth Port, Ma.
Robert Mesrop’s Paintings have been accepted for exhibition in national shows nationwide.
