Making Your Own Textures To Enhance Your Images with Maryellen Stone

Time: 9:00 am-4:00 pm (1 hour for lunch)

One way to enhance, add depth, and emotion to our images is to add textures to them. Join award-winning photographer and digital artist
Maryellen Stone in this two-day hands-on workshop where you will use a variety of techniques to create your own textures using your images,
your DSLR or mirrorless camera, your tablet, mobile phone, and computer. We will create handmade textures using several mediums. Simple methods of matching a texture to an image and adding your textures to your images will be explained.
Gear list – Gear is only a means to an end. You do not need everything on this list.
Any camera, DSLR, mirrorless or smartphone of your choice. You should know how to operate your camera in Manual, and Aperture mode.
- Camera manual or downloaded manual on a device you can access.
Laptop if you have one, to practice editing techniques and editing images for review.
- Image editing software such as Adobe Lightroom, Adobe Camera Raw, Adobe Photoshop, or other editing programs.
- A list of possible helpful programs will be provided upon registration.
Smartphone or iPad if you have one, to practice editing techniques and editing images for review.
- Image editing apps such as Snapseed, Lightroom mobile or other editing apps for mobile devices. A list of possible additional apps will be provided upon registration.
Any lens, or lenses will work, suggestions below.
- Macro lens
- Zoom lens, anything within the range of 18-300mm, 100-500 is fine as well
- Lensbabies or other specialty lenses such as Helios or Meyer-Optik Gorlitz
- Macro converters and/or filters for use with specialty lenses
- Lenses for mobile device
Tripod with ball head, not necessary but may be helpful.
Remote release, not necessary but may be helpful
Other possible gear, not necessary but helpful:
- Extension tubes
- Polarizing filters
- Neutral density filters
- 10 or 12-inch diffusers
- 12” reflectors gold/silver model
- Any other filters for lenses
- Any lenses or filters for Smartphone photography
- Images that you may like to add a texture to
- A change of clothing that you can get dirty or stained with paint or other materials
- A sense of adventure and creativity!
You are welcome to bring anything that is easily transported that would make a good texture including but not limited to:
- Old bakeware, the more well used the better- don’t try to clean it up!
- Colorful scarves with patterns
- Any textile with patterns and or texture, (ex. tweed, linen, etc.)
- Different textured papers
- Tiles
- Glassware
- Lace
- Rock or mineral samples
