Acadia Fall Photo Adventure with John Tunney
Date: October 22-25 (Wednesday – Saturday)
Cost: Members $1595 / Non-members $1625 (includes lodging and breakfast)
or $500 Deposit (and remaining payment due by September 21)
Join photographer John Tunney and a small group of photographers to photograph Maines majestic Acadia National Park at the height of the fall foliage season. In this 4-day/3-night workshop we’ll explore the dramatic Acadian coastline and its rocky shores, along with its colorful woodlands and picturesque harbors. We’ll also venture into surrounding areas and over to the Schoodic Peninsula, including Schoodic Point and nearby fishing villages. Our days will include sunrise/morning and afternoon/sunset field shoots. In addition, if the skies cooperate, we’ll venture out at night to photograph the Milky Way over the Acadian landscape. We’ll have classroom and image review sessions. The workshop is limited to a maximum 7 students. John will offer tips and techniques in the field and classroom to help you get the most out of your workshop and develop your skills.
Topics include:
– Classic and creative techniques for coastal landscape and travel photography.
– Long exposure and camera movement.
– How to photograph the Milky Way.
– Finding the shot in new places.
– Focus stacking.
– Use of filters.
– Editing landscapes, coastal and night scenes.
– What’s new in Lightroom and Photoshop.
Accommodations
Accommodations are included. We’ll be based in Bar Harbor on Mount Dessert Island within walking distance of the shops and restaurants.
Who’s it for?
Anyone with at least a basic understanding of their camera controls and editing software.
Activity Level: Easy to Moderate
Most field shoots will be fairly close to our cars. The longest walk will be under a mile. Walks will include well-maintained woodland trails, rocky beaches and uneven terrain.
What to Bring
You’ll receive a detailed list of recommended gear after you register. Essentials include a good walking shoes/boots. You’ll also need a sturdy tripod for long exposure images, low light scenes and Milky way shots. However, you won’t need your tripod for every location. You’ll also need a computer or tablet for editing sessions.
Transportation
Everyone will provide their own transportation to Bar Harbor. We’ll carpool to locations for field shoots.
Meals: Breakfast is included. You are responsible for the cost of other meals.
Instructor Bio:
John Tunney is a fine-art photographer, photography educator and author. He specializes in fine-art coastal imagery, including impressionistic seascapes, traditional landscapes/scenics and night photography. As an instructor, he has led classes and workshops for many years on the Cape and in Maine, Iceland and other locations. A Master Artist of the Cape Cod Art Center, he is frequent exhibitor in art shows and festivals. John’s award-winning work has been featured in a solo exhibition at the Griffin Museum of Photography, Winchester, MA, and in many solo and group shows in galleries and other exhibition centers.
