Learn to create vibrant paintings with the simple tool of colored pencils by layering colors, blending, burnishing, and creating rich darks and vibrant colors. We will begin with a discussion and demos of materials and techniques such as applying, layering and blending colors then move on to some practice drawings. Students will work from still life set ups and reference photos and may also wish to bring their own reference photos or project ideas.
Sample Materials List:
- Set of at least 48 colored pencils; I recommend Prismacolor Premier as they are the easiest to work with. However, larger sets of pencils are better for a good variety of color. Students may choose to bring another brand especially if they already own some.
- Small sketch pad for thumbnails or trying out colors. Doesn’t have to be new, can be something students already own.
- White drawing paper with such as Strathmore, Legion Stonehenge or Vellum surface Bristol
- Standard lead drawing pencil
- Kneaded eraser
- Pencil sharpener; handheld or battery operated
- Masonite board as a work surface
