Atelier 2 9:30AM-10:30AM
Working from a live model, Paul will demonstrate his approach to creating a convincing figure painting. Discussing composition, focal point, color temperature, edges and capturing the subtleties of the mood, Paul will discuss ways to better achieve successful results. He will explain ways to mix color, use painting mediums and understand drying times, and to use these elements to advantage. Paul’s Bio
Paul attended Boston University College of Fine Arts, receiving his BFA in Painting in1979. Contrary to the trend of that time, Boston University provided an educational foundation that emphasized the fundamentals of classical art training: anatomy and form, color, composition and draftsmanship.
In the 1980s and ‘90s, Paul created artwork for publications. His work won several awards and has been published worldwide. Former clients include: Digital, Cigna, Fidelity, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Sunoco, TIME, U.S. News and World Report, The Wall Street Journal, Cahners, Prentice Hall, Houghton Mifflin and Ziff-Davis.
In 2000, Paul began showing oil paintings at Addison Art Gallery in Orleans and transitioned into working as a full time painter. He has had solo shows, and has been involved in many group shows at the Cape Cod Museum of Art; his work is in their permanent collection. His painting of a Cape Cod fisherman entitled “Shoveling Ice” was the cover art for American Art Collector Magazine in July 2007.
