ICM – The Art & Craft of Intentional Camera Movement

Join John Tunney for a hands-on workshop to practice Intentional Camera Movement (ICM) techniques at the beach, woodlands and other locations. The workshop begins at 4pm Friday with classroom session to discuss various movement techniques and their different effects, how to identify promising subjects, including beach scenes, trees and landscapes, flowers, city-scapes and even people. He’ll also discuss processing techniques using Lightroom and Photoshop to optimize your images. The session will last about an hour.
We’ll then head out for a field shoot through sunset. We’ll meet the next morning for sunrise at the beach to capture the waves, sand and shifting colors of early morning. After a short breakfast break, we’ll head off to create images of marsh scenes, woodlands and harbors. Afterward, we’ll move into the classroom to discuss processing ideas, real-time editing and picture reviews. You’ll wrap up around 1pm.
Skill level: You should know how to change your camera settings and have basic editing skills with Lightroom or an equivalent program.
Activity level: Easy to some moderate. Some walking with equipment and short distances in sand.
What to Bring
- Camera and lenses (A standard 24-105 or 24-70 is all you need, but you might want to experiment with a telephoto, too)
- Tripod is optional, but recommended
- Laptop with Lightoom and Photoshop loaded
Instructor Bio: John Tunney is a fine-art photographer, photography educator and author. He specializes in fine-art coastal imagery, including impressionistic seascapes, traditional landscapes/scenics and night photography. As an instructor, he has led classes and workshops for many years on the Cape and in Maine, Iceland and other locations. A frequent exhibitor in art shows and festivals, John’s award-winning work has been featured in a solo exhibition at the Griffin Museum of Photography, Winchester, MA, and in many solo and group shows in galleries and other exhibition centers.
